The Art of Ceylon Cinnamon Chai in Colombo:
Authentic Alba Quills & Spice Alchemy

Single-Estate Ruhuna Black Leaf, Hand-Shaved True Cinnamon Quills & Artisanal Table-Side Brewing

“There is an ancient distinction that every tea lover must understand: pure Ceylon Cinnamon is not merely a spice, it is an intoxicating, subtle medicine that transforms orthodox black tea into liquid gold.”

When travelers order spiced tea across Europe, North America, or East Asia, they are almost universally consuming Cassia, a cheap, pungent bark harvested in China or Indonesia. While pungent and spicy, Cassia carries a sharp woody bitterness and contains high concentrations of coumarin, a compound known to stress liver enzymes in high doses.

True Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), native exclusively to the fertile southern coast of Sri Lanka, is a completely different botanical marvel.

How We Craft Battler Ceylon Cinnamon Chai

At Battler Lounge, our Cinnamon Chai is steeped using a centuries-old artisanal infusion method designed to extract delicate volatile oils without scorching the leaves:

1

Orthodox Highland Black Leaf Base

Spices easily overpower delicate teas. We select a deep, malty orthodox broken leaf from low-grown Ruhuna estates that provides a robust tannin framework capable of harmonizing with aromatic island spices.

2

Fresh Hand-Shaved Alba Quills & Green Cardamom

We source certified Alba-grade Ceylon cinnamon, the thinnest, most delicate quill grade available on the island. The quills are crushed fresh alongside green cardamom pods right before steeping.

3

Controlled Steeping & Local Bee Honey

Steeped at 95 degrees Celsius (203 degrees Fahrenheit) for exactly four and a half minutes to extract natural sweetness and comforting polyphenols. Served pure black, or textured with silky steamed milk and local wild bee honey.

Take Home The Battler Cinnamon Chai Gift Tin

Guests frequently ask to take our blend back to their home countries. We package our Ceylon Cinnamon Chai in the iconic Battler Elephant Collector Tin, ensuring the volatile essential oils of the Alba cinnamon and whole orthodox leaves remain locked in peak aromatic condition for the flight home.
